“Restore Your Faith in Humanity” Friday #5

25 09 2009

This is a story from my backyard.

I live in the town of Maryville, MO. Our high school’s freshmen football team was playing Benton, a school in St. Joseph, MO…about 40 miles from here.

Maryville was shutting Benton out. And, at the end of the game, Maryville gave up a touchdown to Benton.

But, they wanted to.

Read the story of Matt Ziesel’s amazing touchdown run and feel good.

“Restore Your Faith in Humanity” Friday #4

11 09 2009

It’s been a few weeks since I have posted a story that might restore your faith in humanity. However, there is lots of good out there in the world worth talking about.

Here is a story of a man who has donated, this week, his 40th gallon of blood. It’s estimated that he has helped nearly 1,000 people.

Giving blood is something that almost all of us can, and should, do. It’s simple and highly needed. Visit the American Red Cross to find a drive or center near you.

“Restore Your Faith in Humanity” Friday #3…on Monday

24 08 2009

I failed to get my “Restore Your Faith in Humanity” Friday post posted on Friday. So, here it is…on Monday.

And it’s a doozie. It’s an article about the Standford Hospital and their “No One Dies Alone” program. Go and read and do likewise.

It’s always good to be reminded that all news is not bad. It’s good to hear good things about good people who have glimpses of goodness.

I give you our Restore Your Faith in Humanity Friday moment.

A “Restore Your Faith in Humanity” Moment

Every once in awhile, it’s nice to be reminded that there is still some good out there.

I give you a “restore your faith in humanity” video.

Paul Potts: An Amazing Story

18 12 2007

I stumbled across this story today, in an article looking back at popular internet videos of 2007.

Paul Potts used to sell mobile phones in the U.K. He entered into a competition called “Britain’s Got Talent” and took the stage. When asked by one of the hosts what he wanted to do, his answer was, “to sing opera.”

The looks on the judges faces said it all. But then, Paul sang his opera. He sang Nessun Dorma, one of the most famous arias ever written. Watch it below:

Paul would go onto win the competition. You can see his website here. I recommend watching the video on the front page.

Why am I posting this? For several reasons:

  • I am a music buff. I was a music major in college and studied things like this aria. And it is refreshing to me to see that even opera can resonate with the masses.
  • I am a passion buff. His performance isn’t the best in the world (have you heard Pavarotti perform it?) but can you see the passion in his eyes?
  • I am an underdog buff. This guy sold mobile phones with a dream of performing opera. Now he travels the world doing just that. And did you see the looks on the faces of the judges when he said he wanted to sing opera?
  • I am a beauty buff. Isn’t this aria one of the most beautiful things you have ever encountered?

This has made my day. It moved me to tears and even to a blog post. May it move you too.
