Session #7 w/ Priscilla Shirer & Dave Ramsey

  • 7:51 AM mynameisbrandon – I am in the building now and LIVE…finally!
  • 7:53 AM mynameisbrandon – Priscilla is on the stage. She is a popular Bible teacher and one of the few women on the main stage this year.
  • 7:53 AM mynameisbrandon – She is telling the story of how the lead singer of the band KORN was loved into the Body of Christ.
  • 7:53 AM mynameisbrandon – Good morning everyone! Sorry I am a little later…traffic on the way in was INSANE!
  • 7:54 AM mynameisbrandon – The lead singer of Korn walked away from a guaranteed $20 million paycheck from an album they were to release. His motivation: he read in the Bible where Jesus said you have to leave EVERYTHING to follow after him.
  • 7:55 AM mynameisbrandon – We need to have lives that are interrupted by God…Priscilla calls them it a “divine interruption.”

  • 7:57 AM mynameisbrandon – Will we allow God to divinely interrupt us and lead in the direction He wants us to go…not where everyone else wants us to go?
  • 7:57 AM mynameisbrandon – The nature of following God is a life that is interrupted…it will happen and has to happen.
  • 7:58 AM mynameisbrandon – Priscilla is going to give us some characteristics of a life well-interrupted…from the life of Joshua.
  • 7:58 AM mynameisbrandon – 4 attributes of Joshua that we need to see:
  • 7:59 AM dadrowles – Back with you today, love Dave Ramsey, waiting.
  • 7:59 AM mynameisbrandon – 1) Joshua acted immediately in obedience to God.
    Joshua 3:1
  • 7:59 AM mynameisbrandon – @dadrowles Welcome back! I, too, love Ramsey. He is definitely a crowd favorite here.
  • 8:00 AM mynameisbrandon – Do we act IMMEDIATELY in obedience? A lot of us practice obedience…later. Obedience delayed is disobedience.
  • 8:02 AM mynameisbrandon – When the Israelites were getting ready to cross the Jordan…the winter snow was melting off and the river was running wild. And Joshua and his men camped by the Jordan for 3 days to look at this huge task ahead of them…Joshua 3:2.
  • 8:03 AM mynameisbrandon – 2) Joshua was a man who acted fearlessly.
  • 8:03 AM mynameisbrandon – Because the Spirit of God lives inside of us, we are not captive to fear.
  • 8:03 AM Brian Mowers – biblegateway.com is an awesome tool! works well in this application.
  • 8:04 AM mynameisbrandon – @Brian Mowers That’s what I am using this morning…I just keep it open!
  • 8:07 AM mynameisbrandon – Joshua doesn’t say “I am the leader. Follow me.”
Joshua does say, “God is the leader. Follow Him.”
    Joshua 3:3
  • 8:07 AM mynameisbrandon – 3) Joshua was a man who acknowledged the presence of God.
    Joshua 3:3
  • 8:08 AM mynameisbrandon – Jesus said he only does what his Father does…he did God’s will and NOTHING ELSE.
  • 8:10 AM mynameisbrandon – Priscilla just told a story of her son on Christmas. Her husband was having a “spiritual moment” with the kid. He asked, “Whose birthday is it today?”
  • 8:11 AM mynameisbrandon – The older brother said “Jesus!” The younger brother looked at all the presents around the tree for him…and thoughts…and asked, “Am I Jesus?”
  • 8:11 AM mynameisbrandon – Sometimes we must think we are God because we try to control all of our situations.
  • 8:13 AM mynameisbrandon – 4) Joshua was a man who anticipated the miracles of God.
    Joshua 3:5
  • 8:13 AM mynameisbrandon – Joshua expected God to move…and millions of Hebrews followed him as he led out with this expectation.
  • 8:14 AM mynameisbrandon – The people followed a man like Joshua then.
And they will follow people like Joshua today.
  • 8:14 AM mynameisbrandon – Priscilla brought some energy. This place is buzzing with excitement.
  • 8:14 AM mynameisbrandon – Aaron Keyes is back on the stage now…leading the people in some singing.
    “Come Lord Jesus…come.”
  • 8:17 AM mynameisbrandon – Since I have a moment…let me explain one of the fun experiences of this morning that occurred as I was firing the computer up.
  • 8:17 AM mynameisbrandon – The Catalyst guys got 10 or 15 guys on stage named Mark…significant because the theme of the conference this year is “On Your Mark.”
  • 8:18 AM mynameisbrandon – It also is the 10th anniversary of Catalyst.
  • 8:18 AM mynameisbrandon – The had the Marks do something crazy…and then, we counted down…and everyone in the house shot streamers and sang Happy Birthday.
  • 8:19 AM mynameisbrandon – Such a simple thing…but so fun and so cool…and another cool experience that Catalyst pulls off. If you read my blog from last night, one of the things that Catalyst does well is not just provide speakers and worship leaders…they provide experiences. They fully engage the people in the room.
  • 8:20 AM mynameisbrandon – Aaron: “We weren’t just bad people made good. We were dead people made alive.”
  • 8:21 AM Brian Mowers – next year I WILL be there
  • 8:21 AM mynameisbrandon – @Brian Mowers I have always been skeptical of the cost…but it is well worth the cost. A good investment.
  • 8:22 AM Brian Mowers – i’m convinced
  • 8:23 AM mynameisbrandon – I am very excited to hear Dave Ramsey. The guy is a ball of fire.
  • 8:24 AM mynameisbrandon – This morning I am sitting close to the stage…yesterday was spent up high on the balconies. The stage is an impressive large X. There are concert lights and smoke and all the mirrors. 4 massive large screens hang over the stage as well as a scoreboard thingy showing video feeds.
  • 8:26 AM mynameisbrandon – If you have been able to check out a few of the sessions with me…which most of you have…would you drop me an email at mynameisbrandon@gmail.com? I would love to pick your brains about this experience. Just sent me an email with your name and I will reply to you soon.
  • 8:27 AM mynameisbrandon – A young lady is on stage doing spoken poetry. I have seen this girl in videos before…her voice and meter always puts me in a trance.
  • 8:33 AM mynameisbrandon – I don’t think anybody went home last night. This place seems more full than it was yesterday…if that is even possible.
  • 8:33 AM mynameisbrandon – Dave Ramsey is up!
  • 8:34 AM mynameisbrandon – Dave’s principles have changed the life of my family.
  • 8:36 AM mynameisbrandon – Dave is leading through an “old Southern Baptist hymn:” the opening lyrics from The Beverly Hillbillies.
  • 8:38 AM mynameisbrandon – The Hillbillies were on the air in the 60s and early 70s. They haven’t done a new episode since 1971. Most of us weren’t born when it went off the air.
  • 8:38 AM mynameisbrandon – Yet, 90% of us can sing all the lyrics.
  • 8:38 AM mynameisbrandon – How would we like our ministries to have that kind of impact?
  • 8:39 AM mynameisbrandon – Momentum.
When you have it, you look better than you are.
When you don’t have it, you are better than you look.
  • 8:40 AM mynameisbrandon – Momentum is created. It doesn’t randomly occur.
  • 8:40 AM mynameisbrandon – Dave Ramsey started his financial radio show on a bankrupt radio station! There is some irony for you.
  • 8:43 AM mynameisbrandon – Dave is hammering the point…when you don’t have momentum, you ARE better than you LOOK.
  • 8:43 AM mynameisbrandon – However, it is important that you get some momentum in every area of your life.
  • 8:44 AM mynameisbrandon – St. Ambrose said we must pray like it all depends on God and work like it all depends on us. The problem is, most Christians go to extremes with these.
  • 8:44 AM mynameisbrandon – Dave says, “You can’t be burned out if you ain’t never been on fire!”
  • 8:45 AM mynameisbrandon – Dave is going to walk us through how we create momentum.
  • 8:46 AM mynameisbrandon – “I have worked my butt off for 17 years and then became on overnight success!”
  • 8:47 AM mynameisbrandon – We have a part to play in God’s script.
  • 8:48 AM mynameisbrandon – The Momentum Theorem: Fi/T(G)=M
  • 8:48 AM mynameisbrandon – Fi = Focused intensity.
  • 8:48 AM mynameisbrandon – T=Time.
  • 8:48 AM mynameisbrandon – G=God.
  • 8:48 AM mynameisbrandon – M=Momentum.
  • 8:48 AM mynameisbrandon – Focused intensity over time multiplied by God equals momentum!
  • 8:49 AM Brian Mowers – very “eldredge” of him
  • 8:49 AM mynameisbrandon – Focused intensity // This is hard for us because our whole world is ADD.
  • 8:50 AM mynameisbrandon – We cannot do EVERYTHING. We have to do what we have been called to…everything else is God’s job.
  • 8:51 AM mynameisbrandon – How can wide receivers, who get paid millions a year just to catch a ball, not be able to catch it? They lose focus.
  • 8:52 AM mynameisbrandon – Fear causes us to lose focus. Fear is NOT a fruit of the Spirit.
  • 8:53 AM mynameisbrandon – Dave showed a clip from a Georgia football game…the guy dropped the ball because he turned his head just a bit before a big hit came.
  • 8:53 AM mynameisbrandon – Focus is also lost when we become greedy.
  • 8:54 AM mynameisbrandon – Wide receivers take their eye off the ball when they look towards the endzone.
  • 8:55 AM mynameisbrandon – “A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.” James 1:8
  • 8:56 AM mynameisbrandon – You lose peripheral vision in your life if you focus. You can’t see anything else except what your eyes are on.
  • 8:56 AM mynameisbrandon – We have an advantage if we focus…because nobody else in our culture is focused.
  • 8:57 AM mynameisbrandon – Focused intensity…Ecclesiastes 9:10.
  • 8:58 AM mynameisbrandon – Dave is getting excited and talking faster and faster. His enthusiasm is contagious.
  • 8:59 AM mynameisbrandon – We need to place our intensity into something that matters.
  • 9:00 AM mynameisbrandon – Intensity causes things to move. Things don’t get moved unless it’s shoved.
  • 9:01 AM mynameisbrandon – Dave is showing the Chris Farley clip of Matt Foley, the motivational speaker!!!
  • 9:02 AM Brian Mowers – classic!
  • 9:02 AM mynameisbrandon – People were quoting it verbatim!
  • 9:02 AM mynameisbrandon – This Focused Intensity is over Time in the formula.
  • 9:04 AM mynameisbrandon – Time // When Paul says we have to run the race in 1 Corinthians…it was a marathon. Marathons take a long time.
  • 9:05 AM mynameisbrandon – A billionaire once told Dave that the book that changed his life was “The Tortoise and the Hare.” He said he read it all the time.
  • 9:06 AM mynameisbrandon – Every time he read the book, the Tortoise wins!
  • 9:06 AM mynameisbrandon – The Tortoise is slow and ugly, but he always wins.
He stayed the course. No distractions.
  • 9:07 AM mynameisbrandon – The next element in the Formula is (G): God.
  • 9:07 AM mynameisbrandon – You and I are finite. God is infinite.
  • 9:08 AM mynameisbrandon – We multiple something finite with something infinite. That’s good math.
  • 9:09 AM mynameisbrandon – Luke 18:27…what is impossible with man is possible with God.
  • 9:11 AM mynameisbrandon – Success takes time. If it happens overnight, we need to be concerned. We probably don’t have the foundation to sustain it.
  • 9:13 AM mynameisbrandon – Dave is telling the story of Winston Churchill giving a commencement address at his college alma mater.
  • 9:13 AM mynameisbrandon – Churchill: “This is the lesson: Never give in.”
  • 9:14 AM mynameisbrandon – Then he got off the stage.
  • 9:15 AM mynameisbrandon – Dave: Go create some unstoppable momentum in the name of Christ. And then never, ever quit.
  • 9:17 AM mynameisbrandon – Great stuff from Dave…
  • 9:19 AM mynameisbrandon – This session is ending. We will reconvene in about 25 minutes…10:45am EST for Session #8.
  • 9:19 AM mynameisbrandon – Check the blog and Twitter for the links.
