i had the privilege of teaching a workshop earlier this week at the national student conference. the nsc is an incredible gathering of students and staff involved in campus ministries from all over the country.
i was asked to teach a 2-hour workshop based on John 14:6. this verse states:
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (ESV)
most Christians i know believe this verse to be true…but tend to avoid this claim of Jesus for fear of being labeled narrow-minded, snobbish, intolerant, and so forth. i was assigned the task of showing that you can believe and teach the truth of John 14:6 and not be a jerk about it.
thus, my workshop was entitled, "Jesus Saves! But Don't be a Jerk About It."
here are the notes from both sessions.
part 1 outlines ways that i think Christians have tended to mishandle John 14:6.
part 2 outlines the context of John 14:6 and the three elements needed to not be perceived as a jerk. these are service, love, and investment.
